The Horticultural Artistic Residence
Artist residency around the know-how linked to Flora and a living art, Seine-Saint-Denis (93)
June-October 2021
Using a quote from Joseph Beuys on art, agriculture and lettuce* (also a flowering plant), Sixtine Dubly imagines the unique system of "The Horticultural Artistic Residence" around the "Flower substance". This cultural and social program was the winner of the “Compositing knowledge for a sustainable future” program, 5th edition, 2021, of the Carasso Foundation.
RAH introduced seven young artists from the Paris region to horticultural know-how and ecological issues, in a flower farm in Seine-Saint-Denis (93). The ephemeral artistic performances exhibited in the field following the residency ( leur, une histoire de salade, October 2021) celebrate the impermanence of life. They are entirely plant-based, local and compostable and have given rise to modules for reflection on the reasoned production of works, such as the Météorologique Protocol.
The Horticultural Artistic Residency offers an artistic practice focused on the Living and the methods of reasoned cultivation. It also explores the new possibilities of mediation and social connection offered by Flora (citizen, scientific, cultural) in a peri-urban territory subject to complex socio-economic issues. Schoolchildren and associations were welcomed during guided tours dedicated to their issues.
